On February 23rd, Santander Brazil Asset Management hosted the first edition of “Seleção Day” at the Auditorium of Santander’s head office, an entire morning event dedicated to our core equity fund, Seleção. We have invited CEOs from renowned local consumer companies – that are invested by the Fund, to present their approach to business, the recent trends and challenges in their sector. Seleção is one of the top performers among Brazilian value funds.

The event began with a presentation by SAM Brazil’s CEO, Miguel Ferreira, covering a brief economic outlook, the challenges faced by the investment funds’ industry, the consequent importance of a shift to high value added capabilities and SAM’s business strategy in Brazil.

Following this opening presentation, Roberto Reis, head of the Seleção Fund team, presented the investment approach to this value strategy mandate, highlighting the investment philosophy, process and the fund’s performance versus the benchmark. Next, Alexandre Cancherini, co-head of Seleção Fund, conducted a talk-show with 2 leading CEOs of companies where the Seleção fund holds positions, Eugenio Mattar – CEO of Localiza, Brazil’s leading car rental company, and Luiz Falco – CEO of CVC, Brazil’s largest travel agency.

Following a short break, José Galó – CEO of Renner, Brazil’s largest women’s apparel retailer, made a presentation about their corporate culture and its impact on business performance. Closing the event, Sergio Rial, President of the Santander Bank in Brazil, presented his views on corporate culture and leadership.

A total of 230 clients attended the event (2/3 from Private Banking and 1/3 from Corporate and Institutional segments). There was also a live broadcast to 6 different Private Banking regional offices, where a total of 30 additional clients had the opportunity to watch the entire event accompanied by their respective relationship manager. Santander’s event app was also used as a tool to provide connectivity and interaction with the participants, who could enjoy live updates on the event’s agenda, post comments, ask questions and leave their opinion.

In addition the direct impact on clients, we have received very positive feedbacks from colleagues from both Select and Private Bank, which definitely contributes to the perception that they have a top performing equity fund to offer to their clients.
